RAW Collaborative 2026
‘stories through design’
our installation at RAW collaborative speaks of the importance of understanding where our interior objects come from, but through subtlety and tangibility. by narrating the story of ismail bhai and showcasing the beautiful design and workings of the nimbhado(kiln), we invite everyone to reconnect with the quiet and powerful generational knowledge encapsulated in a single lamp - the naliya.
our installation is a deconstructed, cross-section of the nimbhado(kiln), that demonstrates the depths and layers of the process involved in bringing ismail bhai's terracotta creations to life.
relatively unseen and painstaking process that has been largely replaced by electrical kilns, ismail bhai's nimbhado is the complex, detailed and beautiful story behind the naliya lamp. materials : cross section will be created using original materials such as soil, kachra, terracotta pieces, gunny bags as used in the original process.
