in the cloth weaving process, a shuttle is a pointed wooden and brass object that carries the weft yarn horizontally. the shuttle lamp was inspired by nature of weaving in the weavers village in pochampalli, telangana, India to make ikkat sarees.
the handloom process is a long and painstaking process that can take up to even a year to create one final saree of 5 metres. while the sarees travel the world, the tool that constructs these sarees remain an obscured object and the shuttle lamp reclaims space for the shuttle as an individual object in its own right, illuminating the tool that quite literally weaves culture together through all handlooms in india.
